Knotch connected with Mita Mallick, Head of Diversity and Cross Cultural Marketing at Unilever for our "Own Your Voice" series to hear her story, and to learn what drives Mita in her career.
Growing up, I never “fit in” and I was hardly ever included. I was a funny looking dark girl with a funny name and funny characteristics. It was funny - until it wasn’t anymore. As a result, I was heavily bullied growing up.
At the height of the bullying in high school, my guidance counselor intervened and stood up for me as an advocate. He was also the cross country coach and asked me to join the team. Being on the team, I was seen as an equal when I ran. Since that point, running has been a constant in my life.
My parents. They were immigrants who came to this country with no family and no friends. My father always told me to focus on my passion, and the success would follow. Any success I have had is because of them.
We spend too much time thinking about what people want to hear, rather than just sharing our truth.
It is still being written.
